ResidentData/NightlyHousing

From Main

Information on the nightly housing of each CDCR resident from January 1, 2016 to the present.

General comments

This dataset comprises data related to the housing of CDCR residents, with one record per resident per night from 1 Jan 2016 to the present. Nghts after a resident has paroled or discharged are not included, but nights when residents are temporarily out to court or a medical facility (as noted in [ResidentData/LocationStatus] are included even though the resident is not present that night. If a paroled or discharged resident returns to CDCR, then their records will resume on the night they first returned. To reduce dataset size, a number of columns use lookup values rather than text labels.

ResidentId

Anonymized signed integer unique to each resident, consistent across all data in the same upload.

FacilityId

Stable anonymized signed integer ID value of the resident's facility that night.

Examples

578998371, -456578293

BuildingId

Stable anonymized signed integer ID value of the resident's building and floor that night.

Examples

578998371, -456578293

RoomId

Anonymized ID value uniquely identifying the resident's room that night, where room is an enclosed space with full walls. ID is consistent across all data in the same upload. Room capacity tells you the number of beds in the room whereas design capacity is the architectural capacity of the room. Design capacity of rooms is not included in this dataset.

Examples

2,12,100

BunkId

Stable anonymized ID value for the resident's bunk that night. Nested within room.

Examples

578998371,

BunkCapacity

Number of beds in resident's bunk.  In most cases, there is only one bed per bunk, but in some cases there are 2 or 3 (double and triple bunks)

Examples

1, 2, 3

BedLevel

The physical level of the resident's bed that night, whether in a cell or dorm. All non-raised beds have a value of L (lower), including those where there are no beds above it. Note: While CDCR has housed residents in three-tiered bunks and "X" beds in the past, this practice was ceased prior to the starting date of this dataset.

Values
  • L = Lower
  • U = Upper

ActivityCohortId

Stable anonymized signed integer ID value of the resident's activity cohort, wherein residents in a given cohort attend yard time, canteen time, package pick-up, laundry exchange, medication line, and/or meals separate from all other cohorts. Activity cohorts are typically at the building level or lower.
